High-cut panty, tanga, boyshort, control brief, bikini, shaping panty… buying the right type of panty isn’t as simple as you might think!  Just as there are many different body types out there, the number of different panty varieties available also seems endless! To help guide you towards the best choice and to explain how the right panty can help improve your figure, we once again turn to Raymonde Tranchemontagne, Wonderbra’s Senior Design Manager.

Ms. Tranchemontagne, based on your experience, what are the most popular panty types?
It is difficult to say that one type of panty is more popular than another because the final choice is often influenced by taste or needs. First we have to define what women are looking for in a panty and then compare several models to find the one that works best for them.

How do we choose the best panty for our body type and desired comfort level?
Every woman dreams of having a wonderful figure and they can come closer to this ideal by identifying the feature they wish to conceal and then finding the garment offering the best solution. Some panties offer tummy control, others reduce the roundness of the hips, and still others provide lift for the derrière.

We often see references to “slimming” or “shaping” panties – but how can a panty actually shape our body?

To reduce roundness and add control to the necessary areas, the choice of fabric becomes important as it relates to the percentage of Spandex and how it is integrated. All these details, combined with the cut that we work on during the adjustment of the model, allow us to create a slimming panty with specific targets.

So there are different levels of control and support available when it comes to shaping panties, as there are for bras?
When it comes to panties, we tend to talk about control. And indeed, there are several levels of control depending on the desired effect.

Can women of all body types benefit from this feature?
Certainly, but I would say that you would find a greater variety and wider choice in sizes from medium to XXL.

Finally, what advice would you offer to women who are interested in trying a slimming panty for the first time?
Don’t make the mistake of selecting a smaller size, because the garments have already been designed and adjusted to shape the figure. The ideal is to try on a slimming panty of the proper size in the fitting room and compare what your figure looks like to when you wear your regular panty.

Nearly every woman knows that embarrassing feeling when she realizes her bra is visible through her clothing. Sometimes, it’s because of a see-through fabric; other times it’s due to the colour of the bra itself. But which bra colours should be worn with which clothing colours? And which fabrics allow for the greatest range of bra colours?

For help in answering these and other questions, we asked Raymonde Tranchemontagne, Wonderbra’s Senior Design Manager, to walk us through some simple rules for avoiding unwanted exposure.

Based on your experience, what are the best underwear colours for remaining discreet?

Look for colours that are close to your skin tone. If you’re Caucasian or fair-skinned, this means colours like nude, skin tone, ivory, light pink, taupe, etc. If you have darker skin, look for darker colours like mocha, sand, or black. It’s a simple rule actually – the closer the bra is to your skin tone, the less it will show through your clothing.

Are there ways to wear bolder underwear colours whithout having them show through clothing?
Yes, as long as they’re worn with clothing of similar colours and not with pastels. Ideally, you should stick with darker coloured bras under dark clothing. And avoid white, especially under black clothing!

Does the fabric type of the bra play a role in how visibile (or invisible) it is, under clothing?

Yes, non-textured or seamless materials will always be more discreet. If you’d like to add some variety to your bra collection, look for bras with a light design, without too much colour contrast.

For a more “natural” look, what do you recommend?

A molded, seamless bra – with or without underwires – will give you the most natural appearance. Certain styles incorporate a foam inner lining for added comfort, opacity, and no show-through when worn underneath a t-shirt or silk clothing.

TXT_tendances_top5[Version française]

We saw them make their debut on the runways of the great fashion capitals of the world last fall – and now they’re about to take centre stage in boutiques and on the street: the latest fashion trends for Spring-Summer 2010 are finally available. And you can expect a season that’s very hot and ultra feminine.

To help you make prudent and stylish choices, our fabulous WonderBra fashionistas teamed up to review the major trends en vogue and choose their 5 favourites:
1. Nude colour
2. Liberty floral prints
3. Denim shirt
4. Flounces
5. Look out for lingerie
TXT_tendances_WonderBra1- Nude Colour:
As the 2010 season heats up, you could almost believe that flesh tones, also called nude, have become the new white. They feature a palette that reminds you of cosmetics, ranging from powdery natural beige to creamy flesh and dusty rose. Fresh, delicate, almost ethereal, these soft and neutral tones inject the required restrained touch to prêt-à-porter creations in order to free designers to play with forms and volumes.

Our fashion tip:

Neutral tones should serve as the base for your outfits. Watch out for the totally pastel look that could leave a somewhat pale impression. The solution? You can show lightly tanned arms and legs and add accessories in bolder versions of the same palette.

TXT_tendances_EveGravel2- Liberty floral prints:
Definitely and deliberately vintage (created circa 1875 in England), Liberty prints bring a romantic touch of the country to every spring or summer outfit. Whether worn with a pretty light dress or a favourite warm-weather blouse, these prints waft a breezy, vacation-like feel into your wardrobe.
Many stars in film and fashion capitals around the globe have already begun to take Liberties with the way they dress.

Our fashion tip:
Don’t overdo it. Go with solid-colour accessories to keep the Little House on the Prairie look under control.

TXT_tendances_Denin3- The denim shirt:
The denim shirt was a staple of a late 80s wardrobe and the very incarnation of relaxed American chic. And it’s making a remarkable comeback just in time for balmy weather. We now find it in pale blue or snowy denim, and often worn over a plain white T-shirt.

Our fashion tip:

With its comfortable cut, the jeans shirt is perfect for every body type. To accentuate your waistline, just cinch up a large belt. And for a sexy, but never coarse look, undo the top buttons to show a discreet amount of cleavage.

TXT_tendances_volants4- Flounces:
Frivolity, femininity and freedom, flounces evoke them all. They give volume and movement to clothes without weighing them down. And add that little something extra to handbags and light seasonal shoes. As minis, they create a fresh, cute look and as maxis, something much more dramatic.

Our fashion tip:
Flounces tend to capture the eye and call attention to where they’re worn. So if you’re broad-shouldered, no need for flounces there. The same holds true for women with heavier hips.

TXT_tendances_lingerie5- Look out for Lingerie:
One of the emerging trends this season – and hardly the least important – is the lingerie look and the art of letting your lingerie show. It’s a trend that can be interpreted subtly or become a complete show-stopper on runways by designers like Roberto Cavalli and DSQuared, who have been bold enough to allow undergarments to take over completely by displaying them off on top of other clothing. Although slightly more restrained, wearing a corset or satin and lace tops with a tastefully tailored suit will certainly turn heads.

Our fashion tip:
To be comfortable with the big fashion statement that visible lingerie makes, you should already have a distinctive style. If the person sporting visible lingerie isn’t ready for it, she can quickly turn into a fashion victim, not a fashion victor. And if she isn’t comfortable in what’s she is wearing, she’ll be a long way from achieving the seductive, chic effect she’s seeking. So if you’re going to make that big statement, make sure that you make it yours.
